INTERMEDIATE MIXED MEDIA COURSE
The history of Modern and Contemporary Art is dominated by artists breaking down the established canons of the materials and methods accepted as “Art”. The history of 20th and 21st century artists exploring media starts with Picasso and continues today with installations and performances. It is no longer the hand that is the dominant maker of images but rather the mind, the body and the audience itself that are the protagonists.
The objective of this course is for students to work with more innovative techniques related to current trends in the contemporary art world. It introduces the participants to working with and generating concepts in a more immediate and direct way. The emphasis of the course is on conceptual rather than manual skills of creativity and expression.
These exercises can become artworks in themselves or be a way to generate ideas for painting and drawing.
Slides relating to contemporary artists will supplement the practical exercises.
